    Last night I was raging at Blender and I realized after chatting with some folks that it's more of a finishing tool for bringing everything together. I was trying to do floorplans from scratch like it was a CADD tool and it really struggles to consistently give very accurate results. But does amazing renders and bringing objects together.

    Awesome thanks Dimitri! A few things may have changed since then, for example when I'm in Edit mode and click on Edge and try to move it (9:14) it doesn't work. Do you have any more recent tutorials on any platform for Architectural design?

      @UHStudio 4 дні тому

      Hi, there are all still relevant, but indeed the UI has changed since then. I will make an update of this that's more recent. As for the edit mode, I usually enable the gizmos to move and scale, even if in the select tool. To enable them, go to the 3d view header, top right hand corner, a little arrow for gizmos, open it, and check move and scale. I don’t get why blender doesn’t have this as a modifier, or a setting on the array modifier

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio 8 днів тому

      it is a setting in the array modifierr, but slightly more involved, as shown in the video, with an empty being rotated and used as the point of rotation. Furthermore, now with Geometry Nodes, this can be done in a way that can act as any other modifier and reused in a group, by exposing some of the settings to be instance based and available in the modifier panel.

      What a silly comment. Of course it's architecture. Dimitar's designs are 3D buildings and spaces not just shapes. Dimitar's design process here with Blender is a more advanced version of what we were routinely doing back in the mid 2000's with sketches (2D) of a building and then build the mass of the design in 3D Max. After the 3D Max stage the "sliced" 3D object floor plans would be taken into traditional 2D CAD (AutoCAD LT) for working up to production drawings. Nothing new here in my 45yrs+ of professional design experience and that's not to criticize the interesting process Dimtar uses with Blender and the "Tissue" add-on.

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio 12 днів тому

      Did you watch the video? In it I go through an architectural comissioned project that outlines the typical (yet much more complex) steps of the architectural design process prior to getting to the actual design process. And certainy there are loads of examples that don't go through the full architectural depth of the landscape project I talk about since that would require a lot of work. Yet, the processes that those simple architecture and design exercises require help build up the skill that when a large and complex project comes around, one feels fully prepared. So, yes it is shape-making, and yes it is architecture :)

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio 12 днів тому

      Thanks for your comment. I feel the same. I once had a more experienced client that was also an architect that told me that these days, with all the 3d, many younger professionals can't visualise what a plan and a section actually mean. Yet, I believe that through 3d design and computational design processes, we can get a much better design (not necessarily, but depinging on the design and the client, the probability is typically higher). So, certainly, all that computational and 3d design is as mentioned in the talk a process that helps iterate through ideas faster to get to the right solution. And with that client from Goldman Sachs, they had a an auditorium for the NY HQ that didn't quite work right with the sight-lines. I had developed a fairly straightforward script with Grasshopper and visualised with Blender to show that the sightlines of our London GS HQ auditorium worked asbolutely properly. Having both the computational and 3d toolset to be able to go through all the iterations the client required, got us in the end to a great design solution faster. Not that we couldn't do it by drafting auditorium sections by hand and sweeping them across a shape to make a 3d auditorium, but that process would have taken up significantly more resources. So, definitely, not that different than switching from hand-drawing to CAD and then to 3d. Yet, interestingly, in my experience, beyond the technical expertise, there is still a fundamential need for designer to comprehend and understand design.

      @@UHStudio Great comment. Ignore the Luddites! When I first started in architecture all we had was the MkI eyeballs, pencil, pens and a drawing board. The most technical piece of equipment I bought was a "Haff" Ellipsograph to create various sizes of ellipse (and also in perspective, hah!). Airbrushes anyone? One of the main drawbacks back in the day for anyone wishing to move into architecture or any design discipline TBH was an ability to be able to draw effectively (read timely also as the client is paying). Computers have enabled the possibility of many more great designers having being liberated by the use of all the fantastic CAD tools available today. Especially the free ones like Blender/Tissue etc. I agree that computers/CAD have changed the way we design for the better and without these powerful tools the interesting forms (and the many iterations possible) from the likes of Hadid/Geary et all would not exist or even be able to be detailed/built.

      That design is the result of a team of 4-8 professionals, and external consultants working continuously on for 8 months on the project :) I always mention that great design requires the proper design processes, so many iterations testing and re-defining the project requirement and program until we get to a solution that both the design team and the client team are satisfied with. Unfortunately, in this case, the client reallised that they don't have the budget to fulfill the vision they comissioned us to produce.

    • @NBCNothingButCrap
      @NBCNothingButCrap 14 днів тому

      Yeah.. documentation is apart of architecture. And that what most people struggled and time consuming process ever. As a 'Bim addon' , is should come with capability and features like Revit, Archicad or Vectorworks, all those thing come as an addon for Blender. Now we can declare it as.. BIM ADDON for Blender.

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio 12 днів тому

      Yes, I definitely hear you and the fact that there is perhaps an even larger need among design professionals for good Revit documentation alternatives. BlenderBIM is evolving well and going towards better documentation, and Freecad with its recent topo-naming update is getting much better. Yet, unfortunately none at the time come as fast as drawing walls, tagging spaces, adding dimensions, producing schedules, and adjusting the design as Revit at the moment. However, when comparing to pure 2d CAD documentation, there is actually quite a bit of comparison towards the possible efficiencies of the processes.

    hey... so do you do floor plans. I expected to find symbols or objects for architectural items. I think Affinity calls these assets. Like walls and windows etc. But I don't see any at all. Is it my copy or did you make your own or got them somewhere else. Great work BTW thanks.

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio 12 днів тому

      They are called symbols in Affinity Designer. However, for floor plans, if they are simple, I do them mostly in Rhino as most others do them in Autocad with Blocks and control the lineweights and looks there. Affinity designer does not come with library of architectural assets. But if you happen to have cad or vector symbols, you can makes your own symbols library.

    I don't use much varieties of mice, but when I'm holding the traditional design mouse front side back, I feel it so comfortable. So, I decided to request one of the branded mouse manufacturers to make a custom made mouse which can be held front side back. They said their designs are good enough, and ask me to chose one from their products 😁 Any one can try holding your mouse front side back and see how comfortable you feel.

    Damn dude in india it was 400$ for pro version and without pro it was 350$ seems expensive

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio 12 днів тому

      It's not cheap, especially for emerging markets, indeed. Unfortunately these types of tech, well actually including laptops, phones, even cars, etc are more or less the same price points throughout the world, which makes them more accessible in higher-income economies compared to lower-income ones. Actually, even Photoshop and Autodesk licenses are similar, which is crazy. So, yes it's definitely much more expensive in India than it needs to be. These types of niche devices offer productivity performance, which at the end of the day is not that much, so it needs to be judged compared to what it offers. Yet, I once watched a very interesting video by Casey Neistat about his vido gear and the exponantially more expensive that prodcuts that offer a bit higher quality become. I think he callled it the law of deminishing returns. You can buy a standard mouse for $10, and better mouse for $35, or a higher end mouse for $100 and a space mouse. At the end of the day, it's a mouse, but it does offer benefits, which may seem that what they offer is less signficant for the higher price. Yet, if ergonomics are important (as they should be for everyone), you are working in 3d all day, and you work long hours, then a higher price can justify the comfort and also the price it would cost to look after a wrist injury.

    I think the algorithm in grasshopper is much more concise and easy to understand. But this is not quite the right comparison, by the way. Grasshopper uses vector objects, which require more computing power. The advantage of vectors becomes noticeable on curved surfaces. And here you can also use mesh geometry objects in GH, and then everything will work much faster.

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio 12 днів тому

      Yes, meshes work a little faster that Nurbs, which Rhino meshes for display purposes in any case indeed. By the way I think you mean Nurbs, not vector object, as both GH and Geometry Nodes use Vectors for transofrmations.

      You would first "unwrap" it to get each panel separately, positioned in the best possible way to use it for creating a mold. There can also be an intermediate step, where instead of having a huge number of different panels, they can be optimised to have 3 or 4 different types. This is typically done by a facade consultant like Newtecnic or Case Inc. with the help of the Kangaroo plugin in Grasshopper inside of Rhino.

    Hello, Sorry if you have covered this in other videos, I was wondering how your blender models translate it to drawings

      Hi, at the moment, there are various different solutions, none as good as proper CAD or BIM. BlenderBIM can do drawings. There is also MeasureIt_Arch, and also Archipack. However, I usually tend to do drawings in Rhino or sometimes freecad

    do not buy it, there are far better options. even data transferring/syncing cost you with the monthly subscription. and even if they "gift" you the subscription for free for a year, you cannot use it, if you do not have a credit card, which most continental europeans do not have. they dont even offer PayPal etc
